Expected response time: 24-48 hours on business days. Please include your iOS version and iPhone model when reporting an issue.
Below is a frequently asked questions reference covering setup, tracking, reports, privacy, subscriptions, and troubleshooting. If you can't find an answer here, get in touch.
The PIN encrypts your trip data with AES-256 on your device. Without it, nobody can read your trips, not even us. It's also the only way to unlock the app when it's been closed. Choose a PIN you'll remember.
We can't help you recover it, because nothing is stored on our servers (there are no servers). If you forget your PIN, the only way forward is to reset the app from the PIN screen, which erases all local data. Always export a backup periodically to avoid data loss.
Three ways:
By design. Auto-tracking requires "Always Allow" background location, which most privacy-conscious users decline. It also drains the battery. Klomio's manual start keeps you in control and extends battery life.
A few possibilities:
GPS-tracked distances are typically 1-4% less than odometer readings because:
For audit-grade precision, enable "Odometer readings" in Settings. You'll be prompted to enter start and end readings per trip.
Trip distance, date, time, and start/end locations are locked after saving. This is what makes Klomio's log usable as an audit trail. If these could be edited after the fact, the log would be no better than a spreadsheet.
What you can edit on a saved trip: type (Commute / Client / Private), vehicle (Car / Bicycle), round-trip toggle for manual trips, notes, and destination name.
If a trip is wrong, the right fix is to delete it (5-second undo available) and re-record it correctly.
Not currently. When Klomio auto-merges two drives into a round trip (morning outbound + evening return), the combined record is permanent. The round-trip toggle is locked on those trips to preserve the original GPS data.
If an auto-merge was incorrect, delete the round-trip entry and re-record the two legs separately. Undo is available for 5 seconds after deletion.
When you drive Home to Office in the morning and Office to Home in the evening, Klomio detects that the return leg mirrors the outbound. It offers to merge them into one round-trip record. Tap Merge to combine them into a single entry showing the full round-trip distance.
Many jurisdictions (including the Netherlands) don't allow commute trips to be claimed as business expenses. Klomio respects this by default. If your employer or tax situation allows commute reimbursement, enable "Commute claimable" in Settings.
Settings → Rates per km. Set different rates per vehicle (car vs bike). These rates are used to calculate the claim amount on every trip.
For Dutch freelancers: the Belastingdienst sets an annual kilometervergoeding rate for business car use (€0.23/km as of 2025-2026). Rates can change. Always verify the current year's rate at belastingdienst.nl before filing.
HMRC's Approved Mileage Allowance Payment (AMAP) drops from 45p per mile to 25p per mile after you've driven 10,000 business miles in a UK tax year (6 April to 5 April).
Klomio applies the flat 45p rate to all miles. If you claim more than 10,000 business miles in a tax year, your return should use 25p per mile for the excess. The app's totals will overstate your allowable claim in that case.
If you regularly drive over 10,000 business miles, either reduce your rate in Settings at the point you cross 10k, or calculate the taper manually when preparing your return. HMRC's current guidance is at gov.uk/expenses-and-benefits-business-travel-mileage/rules-for-tax.
Overview tab → Export or Reports button. You'll get:
Free plan: CSV export only. Pro plan: all formats.
Yes. Edit the trip in History, then regenerate the report. Reports are generated on demand, not stored.
No, the filename format ensures uniqueness and chronological sorting. Once saved, rename it in Files as you prefer.
On your phone only. Encrypted with AES-256. Nowhere else. We have no servers that store your data.
Three external services, all optional and none linked to your identity:
None of these receive any identifier (no device ID, no user ID, nothing). They just see anonymous coordinates.
Settings → Backup → Save encrypted backup. You'll get a .json file you can save to iCloud Drive, email to yourself, or AirDrop. Import the same way.
Important: backups are encrypted with the same PIN used in the app. If you change devices or forget your PIN, you'll need both the backup file AND the original PIN to restore.
No. Zero. Not even crash reporting. The app has no telemetry of any kind.
Settings → scroll to bottom → "Reset all data" (requires double-tap to confirm). This wipes everything on your device including the PIN. Cannot be undone.
No. We can't recover your data because we never had it. The reset wiped everything encrypted on your device. This is why the Reset button requires a double-tap confirmation. Export a backup regularly (Settings → Backup) to avoid this.
Prices vary slightly by region based on Apple's pricing tiers.
iOS → Settings → [Your name] → Subscriptions → Klomio Pro → Cancel.
Or open Klomio → Settings → Subscription → Manage subscription (links to Apple).
You'll keep Pro features until the end of the current billing period.
There's no free trial, but the free plan lets you track up to 15 trips per month. That's enough to see if the app works for you before upgrading.
Both devices must be signed in to the same Apple ID. Then: Klomio → Settings → Subscription → Restore.
Open Klomio → Settings → Subscription → Restore. This re-checks your purchase status with Apple. If the issue persists after 30 minutes, email support@tiennelabs.com with your Apple ID email (not password) so we can check the receipt.
Apple handles all refunds directly. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Klomio purchase, and request a refund. Apple typically responds within 48 hours. We can't process refunds on our side because we don't receive payments directly.
Two things are needed: your encrypted backup file AND your original PIN.
If you don't have a backup, your trips can't be restored. This is a privacy trade-off: because your data never leaves your phone, there's no server-side copy to recover from.
Most likely an issue we've already handled. After two crashes, Klomio shows a "Discard in-progress trip and reload" button. Tap it. This clears stale data that might be causing the loop.
If crashes continue, email support@tiennelabs.com with:
Klomio tracks while the screen is on (wake lock) and uses Apple's background location API. For best results:
Settings → Notifications → On. You may also need to allow notifications at iOS level: iOS Settings → Klomio → Notifications → Allow.
No. Klomio checkpoints trip data every few seconds to encrypted local storage. When you reopen the app, it recovers where it left off. If you unlock and no trip is active, the trip has already been saved in History.
